Today while I was walking around my backyard, I noticed a lot more caterpillars than I usually do while I’m out. There were so many hickory tussock caterpillars, Lophocampa caryae (the fuzzy white ones) I also found a snowberry clearwing sphinx caterpillar, Hemaris diffinis (the green one with the little tail thing) and, the one (actually two) I’m most excited about… The Promethea Silkmoth(!!) , Callosamia promethea. The two caterpillars I found are in their last instar, and should be pupating very soon. I will be keeping them to let them pupate overwinter with my swallowtail… so long as it doesn’t emerge beforehand!
